Staff Sergeant Hal M. (Mitch) Warner of the United States Army is now on his third tour of duty in Iraq. He was sent there to defend our liberty, our freedom, and to defend our right to worship as we please. He has served this country with honor and intergrity for eight years. He is a brave and dedicated soldier with a heart of courage and compassion. Mitch is from Braggs, OK. His parents are Gail and Hal L. Warner. His father and grandfather were career soldiers.
Recently, he was charged by the military with a crime he did not commit against an Iraqi terrorist. His pretrial hearing will take place in a courtroom in Iraq, thousands of miles away his family and friends who love and support him.
His family has hired legal counsel from Clarksville, TN. This former JAG officer , James Phillips, believes Mitch is perhaps being used as a scapegoat. His fees will be very expensive.
Now Mitch and his family need your help in dealing with this travesty. First, he needs your prayers and your support. Secondly, his family needs your donations to help defray his legal expenses. Should there be any amount remaining in the account, it will be used to help other soldiers that may find themselves in this type of situation.
September update: The Article 32 hearing was held September 13-14. We will post any new information as soon as we learn the outcome of the hearing. There is an eight hour time difference between the US and Iraq but we will post the information as soon as we can. Please pray with us that the hearing will result in all charges being dropped against Mitch. We know he is innocent. Please pray for his freedom.
Update October 9, 2008: The hearing is over and we are still waiting for the outcome. The military has 120 days until they have to make a decision. The lawyer thinks they will take the full 120 days to rule. The family is anxiously waiting. We'll continue to post updates when they're available.
A defense fund has been setup to help Mitch's family with his legal expenses. If you would like to contribute to help save his freedom, please mail your contribution to:
